Friday 7 November saw the opening of Quercus’ first jewellery exhibition – ADORN.
This contemporary jewellery showcase brings together collections by twelve contemporary designers from the UK and the opening night paired this stunning jewellery with delicious gin & tonic from The Bath Gin Company, which proved a thoroughly good combination!
Huge thanks to Lucy from Dot & Lucy Photography for taking these wonderful photographs of the show at the private view.

Today I visited artist Sandra Porter in her studio to select work for Quercus’ upcoming Contemporary Prints show. It was lovely to see a cross section of her prints and paintings in her beautiful studio, where she also runs print workshops. Sandra’s studio is situated in the village of Norton St Philip, about six miles from Bath. It’s an amazing spot with stunning views out over the countryside and fantastic exhibition spaces within her studio and house.
Over the summer Sandra undertook a residency in Céret where she had the use of a large etching press. I was particularly interested to see a newly produced series of her largest etchings to date, plus exciting new large-scale collograph/carborundum prints. A selection of these new works will be available in the forthcoming Contemporary Prints show along with some earlier etchings.
Since studying Fine Art at Stourbridge College of Art in the West Midlands and then painting at Chelsea College of Art in the 1980s Sandra’s work has been dominated by investigations into stripes, grids and intersecting graphic patterns. These explorations continue in her present work and over her impressive exhibition history as a painter and printmaker she has developed a visual language that is recognisably her own.
You can view many of Sandra’s large paintings in the Autumn Exhibition at CircleBath, Peasedown St John, launching this coming Thursday 18 September
Delighted to announce that Quercus Gallery is now showing work by talented painter Adam Milford. Adam is based in Devon and his work reflects his strong response to how an environment is experienced, finding inspiration in the landscape of the South West.
We’re excited to announce that a selection of beautiful prints by Gillian Thompson are now available at the gallery. More of Gillian’s work will be featuring in the next exhibition of contemporary prints at Quercus Gallery, which opens on Friday 3 October.
Gillian is a highly skilled print maker, living and working in Bristol. She is an Editioner at Spike Print Studio and works as a Technical Instructor in the print centre at the University of the West of England. She has won various print awards including BITE in 2012 and the Rebecca Smith Award in 2013.
Gillian’s painterly approach to printmaking focuses on intaglio processes. Printing on heavyweight handmade paper emphasises the tactility of the work, making the prints more akin to objects.

A lovely new map of Bath has just been launched and a whole stack of them have just arrived at the gallery today! You can now find QG located on the corner of Queen Street and Trim Street in relation to other shops, sites and attractions in Bath. The new map give tourists the chance to navigate the beautiful streets of Bath and locate and all manner of interesting places in the city by following a very well thought out sketch map, which I’m pleased to see includes the arch at the bottom of Queen Street! Useful and beautiful way finding from SoMaps.
Queen Street is also well worth a visit for a drink (just next door to the gallery) at The Canary Gin Bar serving their very own Bath Gin, or at The Raven Pub lunch at The Wild Cafe and vintage shopping at Scarlet Vintage and the Vintage and Rare Guitars shop.
The maps are available from the gallery and lots of other places in Bath, including the Library, Waitrose, Victoria Art Gallery and The Roman Baths.
